Painting on top of sea cliffs in Cornwall

Can you think of a better way to spend the day? Nigel Mason and Tom Sharpe couldn't.
Both were engrossed in the process of capturing the stunning view looking North up along the Cornish coast. Dave Meads' beautiful interpretation of the view.

Cornwall- plein air painting on the rocks

Here's a taster of the last Devon 11 painting trip, Olly perched himself on the rocks down at a secluded little spot near Bedruthan Steps in Cornwall, and painted this blinding little study. More to come.

The sun is on it's way back up!

That means outdoor painting time!
With Christmas and the New Year behind us, the nights are starting to draw out and we should be able to get out painting soon.
Meanwhile enjoy these three oil studies produced by Shaun Latham.

Three lovely oil paintings from Olly, he consistently improves with every outing. I particularly liked the harbour scene with the boats, they really feel like they are floating on that incoming tide, and a great sense of perspective into the distance.

Oil and water don't mix?

They certainly don't! Paul Kenton proved that when he and two other artists; Robert Braunton and Shaun Latham, sat out in the drizzle and wind .
So if you ever think that the weather isn't right for painting outdoors, take a look at what Paul painted in some very unpleasant conditions. Paul's short film he made , whilst painting this is two posts earlier on this blog.
Have a great day!

A first time oil painter

Howie Cobb joined our ranks on this last trip . Howie has enjoyed painting in watercolours for years, this was to be his first dip into the world of oils. After frustrating first attempts, Howie soon got into his rythym and produced these two lovely oils painted on location. The first looking across the bay at Lynmouth, and the second, painted down in the Watersmeet Valley, a stunning location to paint at. On this day it was sheltered from the strong winds and drizzle hammering the nearby coast. Check out Howie's blog.
